Planting Season Update

Spring has certainly arrived here in Nelson and we are enjoying bulbs in the garden, tuis dashing around the kowhai flowers, lamb kindergartens in the late afternoon and the feeling of new beginnings after a somewhat interesting year.

Planting of this year’s native restoration projects is almost complete and we have worked in some cool places and seen some wonderful efforts by landowners in restoring their land to something that can be enjoyed for future generations.

It looks like we could potentially be in for another dry year so it pays to ensure your planting projects are completed as early as possible to give plants time to establish roots while there is still good soil moisture levels.

If you have the opportunity to mulch or guard or both, it will certainly help with survival of your plants.

On going maintenance is also incredibly important for successful plant establishment as native trees in particular don’t like to compete with grass and other weeds. Grass is the enemy so try and keep on top of that by getting a good and timely maintenance regime underway.

Best of luck with your planting projects.

This lovely photo was sent to us by one of our great EmGuard customers showing her planting near Banks Peninsula. We are so impressed that she is tackling such a steep site and what a transformation.
