FuturEcology & EmGuard™ Projects
2024 saw us commence our biggest restoration project yet. It involved restoring a gravel extraction pit near the Appleby River in Tasman into a bio-diverse recreational area for the public to enjoy.
The team at FuturEcology have been involved in restoration work in the Waimea Estuary, trying to re-introduce glasswort (Sarcocornia quinqueflora), a species of succulent halophytic coastal shrub, and other saltmarsh species such as oioi, Juncus krausii and saltmarsh ribbonwood to an area of old gravel pit and road.
In 2019, Mike Aviss from Marlborough District Council (MDC) introduced FuturEcology to Lucy Marshall from Patriach Vineyard Limited Partnership.
The 73 hectare vineyard, owned by My Farm Investments, has three areas identified as significant wetlands by MDC and My Farms were very keen to work at restoring these wetlands to their former glory.
Altimarloch Vineyard is situated in the mid Awatere Valley Marlborough. The former sheep farm has been converted on the terraces to productive vineyard but amongst this are wetlands and escarpments that the management of Altimarloch wish to restore.
Over the last two years FuturEcology Ltd has been working with the Kidson and Ussher families on their Wakapuaka properties after they were successful in 2020 in gaining funding for a large scale planting and restoration project along the banks and tributaries of the river.
FuturEcology Ltd has been contracted to restore an area on Rough Island for Tasman District Council and Waimea Water. The aim is to convert former pine forest land to coastal lowland forest.
